Maana: Essential Quranic Words ("Maana", "the app", "we", "us") is published by Qordova Inc. ("the developer"). This policy explains what information the app handles, why, and the choices you have.

Summary: Maana has no ads and no third-party analytics or tracking SDKs. Your learning progress stays on your device. We keep a small amount of data on our server (hosted by Supabase) to give you an account, record card reports you send, and manage Premium access.

1. Information stored only on your device

The following is stored locally on your phone and is not sent to us:

  • Your learning progress: which words you have studied, review schedule, streaks, and deck settings.
  • Your onboarding answers (for example your chosen pace and intention) and simple onboarding step counters used for testing the onboarding flow. These counters are kept on the device and are not transmitted.
  • App preferences such as theme and reminder time.
  • A random identifier generated by the app for card reports (see section 3).

Deleting the app removes this data from your device.

2. Your account

Maana uses Supabase (supabase.com) for sign-in. Supabase processes this data on our behalf.

  • Guest (anonymous) account. On first launch the app creates an anonymous account so that you can use it without signing up. This account has a random user ID and no name or email.
  • Sign in with Apple. If you choose it, we receive a user identifier from Apple and, if you allow it, your email address (which may be an Apple private-relay address).
  • Sign in with Google. If you choose it, we receive a user identifier and your email address from Google.
  • Email and password. If you choose it, we store your email address and a hashed password (handled by Supabase). Supabase sends confirmation and password-reset emails.

We use this information only to sign you in, keep your Premium access and your card reports linked to you, and contact you about your account.

3. Card reports

If you report a problem with a word card, the app sends:

  • the card's content (Arabic word, transliteration, meanings, example verse reference and highlighted word),
  • the category you choose and any note or suggested fix you type,
  • the app version and platform (iOS or Android),
  • your account user ID, if you are signed in (including a guest account), and
  • a random device identifier created by the app (not your phone's advertising ID or hardware ID). It is used to limit spam and to show you the status of reports you sent.

We use reports to correct the word data. Corrections may be published to all users as content updates. Do not include personal information in report notes.

4. Premium, purchases and sponsorships

  • Purchases (subscriptions, lifetime, and sponsoring another learner) are processed by Apple (App Store) or Google (Google Play). We do not receive your payment card details. The app checks your purchase status with the store on your device.
  • Sponsorships. When you sponsor Premium for other learners, the app sends the store transaction ID and platform to our server, linked to your account, so the sponsorship can be credited.
  • Free Premium requests. If you ask for free Premium, we store the request, your account user ID, any reason you type (up to 200 characters), and the expiry date of the grant. We use this to grant access and to limit how often it can be requested.

5. Notifications

If you turn on reminders, Maana schedules local notifications on your device (for example daily study reminders and a trial-ending reminder). These are created on the device and are not sent through a push-notification service. You can turn them off in the app or in your phone's settings.

6. Other network requests

  • Content updates. The app downloads card corrections from our server. This request does not include personal data beyond what is needed to make an internet connection.
  • Fonts. Some fonts are downloaded from Google Fonts (fonts.gstatic.com) the first time they are needed. Google receives your IP address as part of that request.
  • Email links. Some buttons open your email app with a pre-filled message. Nothing is sent unless you choose to send it.

7. What we do not do

  • No advertising, and no advertising identifiers (IDFA / AAID).
  • No third-party analytics, crash-reporting or tracking SDKs.
  • We do not sell or share your personal information for advertising.
  • The app does not use your microphone, camera, contacts or location.

8. Where data is stored and for how long

Server data is stored by Supabase in the United States (East US, Ohio). We keep account data while your account exists. Card reports are kept for 12 months after they are resolved, and then deleted. Premium grant and sponsorship records are kept for fraud prevention and accounting.

9. Your choices and rights

You can:

  • use Maana as a guest without giving an email address;
  • turn off notifications;
  • ask us for a copy of, or deletion of, your account data by contacting us at support@getmaana.com; and
  • delete your account from within the app: open the account menu on the home screen and choose Delete account. This deletes your account and free Premium grants and unlinks your reports and sponsorships from you. It does not cancel an App Store subscription, which you manage in Settings › Apple ID › Subscriptions. See how to delete your account.

Depending on where you live (for example the EU/UK under GDPR, or California under CCPA/CPRA), you may have additional rights.

10. Children

Maana is not directed at children under 13.

11. Changes

We may update this policy. We will change the "Last updated" date and, for material changes, tell you in the app.
