Terms of Use

These terms govern your use of Maana: Essential Quranic Words ("Maana", "the app"), published by Qordova Inc. ("we", "us"). By using the app you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, do not use the app.

1. What Maana is

Maana is an educational app that helps you learn the meanings of frequently occurring words in the Qur'an, using flashcards, spaced review, audio and example verses.

Maana is a learning aid. Word meanings, transliterations and grammatical notes are simplified for learners and may contain errors. They are not a substitute for a full translation, tafsir, or qualified scholarly guidance. You can report errors from any card.

2. Accounts

• You can use Maana as a guest. The app creates an anonymous account automatically.
• You can sign in with Apple, Google or an email address to keep Premium access and reports linked to you.
• You are responsible for keeping your sign-in details secure and for activity under your account.
• We may suspend accounts that abuse the service (for example spamming the report system or abusing free Premium requests).

3. Free and Premium features

Some content is free. Premium unlocks additional words and features, as described in the app at the time of purchase.

Subscriptions and purchases

• Premium is offered as an auto-renewing subscription (monthly or yearly) and may also be offered as a one-time lifetime purchase. Prices are shown in the app before you buy.
• Payment is charged to your Apple ID (or Google Play account) at confirmation of purchase, or when a free trial ends.
• Subscriptions renew automatically unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Your account is charged for renewal within 24 hours before the end of the current period.
• You can manage and cancel subscriptions in your App Store (or Google Play) account settings. Deleting the app does not cancel a subscription.
• If a free trial is offered, any unused portion of it ends when you buy a subscription.
• Refunds are handled by Apple (or Google) under their policies. We cannot issue store refunds directly.
• "Lifetime" means for as long as we offer and support the app.

Sponsoring another learner

You can pay to sponsor Premium access for other learners who have asked for help. A sponsorship is a purchase of access for someone else. It is not a charitable donation and is not tax-deductible. Sponsorships are allocated by us to learners who requested free Premium; you will not choose or learn the identity of the recipient.

Free Premium on request

If paying is difficult, you can ask for Premium free for a limited period. Requests are limited in number per year and may be declined or revoked if abused. We may change or end this program at any time.

4. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

• reverse engineer, copy or redistribute the app or its content except as allowed by law;
• use the report feature to send spam, abuse, or personal information about others;
• interfere with the app's servers or other users' use of the app.

5. Content and licences

• The app, its design, and its original content are owned by us or our licensors.
• The Qur'anic text, translations, recitations, morphological data and fonts in the app come from third-party sources under their own licences.
• Corrections you submit through reports may be used to improve the app for everyone. You grant us a free, perpetual licence to use them for that purpose.

6. Notifications

If you enable reminders, the app schedules local notifications on your device. You can turn them off at any time.

7. Privacy

Our Privacy Policy explains what data we handle and why.

8. Disclaimers

The app is provided "as is" and "as available". To the fullest extent permitted by law, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose and accuracy of content. We do not guarantee the app will be uninterrupted or error-free.

9. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental or consequential damages arising from your use of the app. Our total liability is limited to the amount you paid for the app in the 12 months before the claim.

10. Apple-specific terms

These terms are between you and us, not Apple. Apple is not responsible for the app or its content, has no obligation to provide maintenance or support, and is not responsible for any product claims. In case of any failure of the app to conform to an applicable warranty, you may notify Apple for a refund of the purchase price, if any. Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms and may enforce them against you.

If you downloaded Maana from the App Store, your use of the app is also governed by Apple's Licensed Application End User License Agreement (Standard EULA). If these terms conflict with the Standard EULA, the Standard EULA applies to the extent of the conflict.

11. Ending use

You may stop using the app at any time. You can delete your account from within the app: open the account menu on the home screen and choose Delete account (see how to delete your account). Deleting your account does not cancel an App Store subscription; cancel it in Settings › Apple ID › Subscriptions. We may suspend or end access for breach of these terms.

12. Changes

We may update these terms. We will change the "Last updated" date and, for material changes, tell you in the app. Continued use after a change means you accept the updated terms.

13. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Manitoba and the federal laws of Canada applicable there, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Any dispute arising from these terms or the app is subject to the jurisdiction of the courts of Manitoba.
